Beached dolphins have been in the news all of a sudden (here and here), which is why I'm posting this photo, which was taken at the southern tip of Picnic Island.I can't be sure it's a dolphin of course--it's too badly decomposed. Start at the top of the beached object and you can make out the tail (what's with that rope?).

weird -- I have read that a lot of turtles and marine mammals (like a number of whales in the news lately) get badly tangled in man-made debris, in many cases dying horribly deaths.... ugh
